This market research was part of a sustainable consulting program, carried out by Banco Itaú by the internal credit recovery department, between 2011 and 2013 in partnership with SV Consultoria Empresarial, a training and consulting company. The objective of this program was to verify whether the factors presented in the national and international literature reflected the reality of micro and small companies in the state of São Paulo, which currently represent 98% of Micro and Small Companies in the country, according to FIESP - Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo. There are 5,028 million companies in the country, of which 98% fall into the micro and small group, while medium and large corporations correspond to the remaining 2%. In São Paulo alone, there are more than 1.5 million companies, again 98% micro and small and 2% medium and large. One of the stages of this sustainable consulting program was to identify the current status of the companies that agreed to participate in the referred program. We then elaborated a diagnostic questionnaire, which was applied in person to 760 micro and small companies, by consultants specialized in the area of business management.
